FAQ's- Frequently Asked Questions
1. How does a Stairlift work?
A stairlift is a motorized lift that moves riders from one level to another in your home. Our system uses a Rack and Pinion system that provides a low maintenance, safe and quiet drive between floors.
2. Can other people use the stairs?
The folding design of the Savaria stairlift system allow for use of the stairs. The width of our straight stairlifts range between 10.50 inches and 13 inches from the wall.
3. What are the electrical requirements for a Stairlift?
Our stairlift system plugs directly into a standard 110 volt outlet.
4. Does Medicare or private insurance pay for Stairlifts?
Medicare does not currently provide any funding for stairlifts. Neither do most private health insurances. Some Long Term Care policies will help with cost reimbursement.
5. What happens if the power goes out in my home? Will I be able to get up or down the stairs?
Our stairlift units are battery operated, when your seat is not in use it is charging. If the power goes out , your battery will be charged and ready to use until the power comes back on. Battery life is generally good for 10 + trips up and down the stairs without electricity.
6. My stairs are not straight, can I still get a Stairlift installed?
With our stairlift system, you can access to your entire home even if you have complex stairs. If you have a landing, a 90 degree turn, 180 turn or even a spiral, we can help you.
7. How do you get off the Stairlift at the top landing?
Many people are concerned that their loved one will have to step into the stairs to get on and off at the top landing. Fortunately, this is not the case. All stairlifts in production today are equipped with a seat swivel which allows the user to easily swivel the seat at the top so that their feet are securely planted on the top landing. Further adding to their safety and comfort, the seat locks in place and acts as a barrier to prevent them from falling down the stairs while they get on and off their lift.
